Wes Hutto is a political scientist and Associate Professor of Strategy and Security Studies.
He teaches courses on international security, classical military theory, and emerging technologies and military innovation at the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS). He is also a non-resident senior fellow at the Cornell Brooks Tech Policy Institute. He is a recipient of the 2024 Christopher Coker Prize for best paper in strategic studies.
Dr. Hutto's research interests include drone warfare and its intersection with International Relations and International Relations theory, regional powers and comparative regional security, military strategy, and multinational military exercises.
His work appears in various international relations and security journals, including the European Journal of International Security, International Politics, and Defence Studies. His co-authored textbook Understanding International Security: Theory and Practice was published in October 2025 with Cambridge University Press. His co-edited volume Rethinking Remote Warfare with Palgrave will be out in January 2026.
